When Lisa Johnson’s oldest son came out as bisexual and stepped away from Christianity to explore a more Eastern approach, it shook her faith to the core. Friends told her to cut him off until he “found the truth,” but Lisa knew her son was a gift to be treasured—not a problem to be fixed.
That moment launched one of the hardest and most transformative spiritual journeys of her life. Though she once thought she was affirming, Lisa realized she had a long way to go in becoming a true ally to her son and others in the LGBTQ+ community. Through trial, error, prayer, and humility, she learned to lay down her “high horse” responses and step into a deeper, more Christlike love.
In this session, Lisa will take a real-world look at the LGBTQ+ community, the church, and the challenges our kids face as they navigate identity in today’s culture. You’ll gain tools to move beyond fear and legalism, so you can walk with your children in both truth and grace—the way Jesus would.

Lisa Johnson is a parent coach with over 15 years of experience helping families navigate the messy, beautiful realities of raising teens and young adults. She holds a B.S.Ed. in Education and has spent much of her career in children’s mental health. She is also a foster mom turned adoptive mom and once owned and operated a school designed for kids who didn’t fit into the traditional education mold. Today, Lisa hosts the Unshackled Moms Alliance podcast, leads online support groups, and speaks nationally on parenting, faith, and walking with your kids through life’s toughest conversations. Her passion is simple yet powerful: helping parents move from fear and disconnection to love and understanding—so their kids can feel both deeply supported and deeply seen.
